Nikon D40 ... shoot in low light / night?
I just got a brand new Nikon D40 ... I found almost everything, except I'm having trouble shooting in low light conditions or at night .... Now I know that this is not preferable to shoot unless you're using a tripod and bulb picture adjustments, but I would be able to shoot at night without a tripod My friend has a Canon Rebel XTi and is able to do this. He just puts the camera in "Auto" and only has several flashes before taking the picture so that in their approach. I've got the right lighting I can not seem to focus at night (And I put the lens on auto focus, just because you can not really manual use of the night) can not focus manually, because it is too dark so I can not see. Pooky And I want to do something style of the first image.

For the 2nd, there is light, but "brilliant" enough to hand (flash is also useless because it is too far). The first one is by car. Have you ever tried a manual focus lens? If that is bright enough to see in the viewfinder, then you can focus manually. ------------ Yes, I see. I think - I think your camera has an AF assist lamp (which is a white light) that lights when it is dark so you can help the camera focus. This light, I'm not sure if it's by default can be disabled or enabled via the menu. With my camera does not even have an integrated flash (almost disappointing, given that costs 7 times its own without lens !!!!) - same thing with the external flash in the darkness, LCD screen (bright red) lights up and helps with focus.
