Carbon Fiber Camera Tripod
Can anyone recommend a DSLR lightweight carbon fiber tripod?
I'm going on a safari holiday in 5 weeks time, however, my tripod current is quite poor, so I'm looking to buy a new one. I am looking for a lightweight carbon fiber tripod, Manfrotto or Gitzo possibly that 500g of weight: 1.7 kg max and can support up to 4 kg. I have a 150mm-500mm F5 lens that weighs about 1.8 kg on their own so the tripod must bear the weight of lens + camera body + Battery grip. The tripod should be lightweight, since they will be carried in a backpack with some camping equipment. Points for lighter, more resistant and cheaper (should be able to buy this in the UK)
The Manfrotto is a good choice. I have one, but not lightweight. When hiking, I use a Manfrotto monopod that I stay in my backpack. When shooting with my 4x5 field, drag the standard Manfrotto tripod with me. At the time that includes the camera, lens, film holders and 6 liters of water, little difference between a standard tripod carbon fiber is lost.
