Shading professional wedding photographer?
Do I need a first degree or can I just go in and say "Hey, I want to help!" LOL I am interested in starting a wedding photography business (in a few years, of course) and everyone keeps telling me the first step is to help a professional. How I do this? And I need a 4 year degree even walk in the door? Thank you!
You do not need the title. Its portfolio speak for you. They're gonna see what we can do. Not every photographer is open to the idea of an assistant, but there are some who are. You may want to call and let them know you are interested in being an assistant or second shooter to learn the trade. Let them know that you will not be on the road and will be there to observe. If they choose you and like you, then you might get more chances to work with them. Over time you learn how things work and what they are and how certain techniques work when they leave on their own. You can also start the shooting of someone's birthday party or wedding of a friend or something to get some experience.
