Does the MP of a DSLR depend on the body only?
Does the camera body of a DSLR camera determine the MPs or the lens, or both?
The body determines the MP.
Since you also asked about zoom, I'll sum it up:
A SLR camera is a Single Reflex Camera, this basically means that there's a mirror so that what you see through the viewfinder is what you take a picture of. When you squeeze the shutter release, the mirror flips up, the shutter releases, and the mirror pops back down again. The benefit of this is that with a point-and-shoot (a cheap rangefinder), what you see is offset just a little from what you actually take.
The other benefit of a SLR, is the fact that it's a system. You buy a body, and you buy a lens. It's especially handy if one breaks, because a nice lens can run you over $1000, just like a nice body. So if one breaks, you're only out the cost of one, and you can just replace that.
One other benefit of having a system of lenses, it that you can use lenses that especially good at one type of thing. So, for example, you can have one lens for long shots (telephoto), and telephoto auto-focus lenses tend to not let a lot of light in, and are rather large, physically. But a lens that covers a range close to that of the human eye (a "normal" lens) tends to let a lot of light in, and usually protrude between 1/4" (Pentax pancake lenses) and 5". As you can see, there's a big difference in size there, and that's handy. If you don't need a telephoto lens, it's awful nice not to lug one around!
On the body side, one benefit is that you can buy a lower-end camera (say a Canon Rebel), and get a nice lens, and the lens will be a higher quality component than the camera body. If you then decide to buy a higher end body (say a Canon 5D), you don't have to go out and spend more money on a lens for that. So if you're upgrading your system as you make more money in photography, you don't have to buy a whole new system every time.
So, to answer both your questions at once: Body determines things like MP, how many frames you can shoot per second, how sensitive the sensor is, and so forth. The lens determines how fast you can auto-focus, how much light comes in, what the focal length (or zoom) is.
