I want to buy a digital camera with zoom facility. I want to know what is mega pixel,digital zoom,optical zoom?
Which branded camera is best.Up-to what distance zoom facility can be made use of.What are the advantages and disadvantages of digital camera and handycam.Whether still photos can be taken from handycam.
Megapixel is the number of pixels in millions on the capture device. Here, one needs to know that capture devices are existing in many different sizes. The smaller the sensor, the smaller the pixels at same amount count. The reference to quality is given in density per square cm.
A pocket camera has normaly a sensor that has less then 0.75 square cm and thus higher pixel counts are often not a warranty for higher photo quality. If a pixel gets smaller, he draws sharper and more detailed, just like if you have a lens and you adjust aperture to a smaller opening (larger number). A lens draw sharper at f12 as at f2.8 for example and deepth of fiel gets shorter when full open at 2.8
That is a reason why pocket cameras have small sensors. That allows them to shoot pitures with all over good sharpness and everything visible from front to back, thus a good alround tool for tourists and family album. DSLR thus reflex cameras have sensors that are between 4 and 10 times bigger and thus provide much better results.
The sharpness and field depth is influenced by interchangeable lens length and aperture.
A lens can be fixed length or variable length, thus a zoom lens. A zoom lens allows to focus from close to wide, thus at 136 mm an object that is 5 m away will fill the whole picture while something closer gets cut off. A zoom allows to focus in a specific range like for example a range from 12 to 75 mm. That means that if you open at 12 mm you are able to view a wide field and objects close to you are on the shot while at 75 mm you get just a part of it to cover the frame.
Digital zooms are bullsh.. since it is nothing more then software cropping and magnifying with picture quality loss. Avoid to use it as much as possible.
Concerning making videos with photo cameras or taking photos with handy cams is contro-versed. It works but generaly a handycam is a bad photo camera and a photo camera is a bad video recorder. Modern technologies offer this as a facility, but not for a serious quality work anyway. Consider this and look at it the same way as you look on cellphones.
