Clemens Kalischer: How many know of this American giant?
He lives in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, and works in the same studio once used by Norman Rockwell. The last time I saw him (last year) he was very happy at 80+, with joy and still firing and happy to sign original works and books. His work is reminiscent of the great portrait photo of Frenchman Robert Doisneau, but a little more difficult, as one might expect from his background. Truly wonderful collections of his work in print - mostly by European publishers, where the characteristics of work in permanent museum collections mostly in Germany and Austria. Above all medium or large format black and white, his work has some of the stories are views of New York style, I've seen, and poignant portraits political dignitaries, jazz musicians, actors, etc..
