On a High Definition Camera on standard definition setting, can I use Mini DV HD tape to record HD and SD?
I am considering the Canon Vixia HV30 Digital Camcorder. There are five shooting settings for recording: Standard Definition, Standard Definition (Widescreen), HD, 24p Cinema, and 30p Progression. I was curious if I would need two different types of tapes to record both standard and high definition or if I would just need to get HD Mini DV. I would not want to mess up a new camera, so any help is appreciated.

You can use any MiniDV tape. Doesn't even need to be "HD". And you can record in any of those modes to the tape.
