Is the kit lens on the Canon Eos XSI any good?
I'm getting this camera soon as a beginner DSLR, and I was wondering if the kit lens is any good?
Here are my two options:
1. Get camera with kit lens
2. Buy the camera body and pick out my own lens (I might need help with that.. any recommendations?)
The kit lens that comes with the XSi, the 18-55mm, is a perfectly fine lens. It has a relatively great wide angle (18mm) so that you can get a lot of things in, but lacks in the telephoto range (55mm) so you might have to do some 'foot zooming' to frame something perfectly. If you shoot it on P, you should not have any problems with the kit lens. I have an XSi myself, with the kit lens, and I have found that I have outgrown the lens, so I will probably upgrade. The best thing about the kit lens, though, is that it costs $100 and you can start shooting immediately. If you do want to get a different lens, look at the Canon 28-135. lens. It has a great telephoto capability and would work decent in low light. Check out my blog. All the photos on there were taken with the 18-55, with the exception of a few.
