Question COLLECTORS FINE ART + Gallery owners?
I am currently on a course of etching and engraving have learned about the basic monotype, screenprinting and photo etching, aquatint and the hard ground. However, prices are expensive to use this study and would like to produce small and monotony of a medium-sized prints and loose painterly style. I know that my pictures are good, for sale and my teacher commented on my recent images. My question Digital printing is the ink jet is a form of fine engraving? I combine craft techniques and to develop and print digital images using only the best cotton rag paper and inks. digital inkjet is seen as a lesser art form, and still galleries are to be democratic, if I wanted to present limited functionality of fingerprints, I know they are commercial but have their own internal language and could therefore be appreciated by someone pictorial values language. Can I sell my work and class as a recorder, using only inkjet prints? Thanks for your time.
I make my living as a good professional artist. This is a controversial topic in the art world at this time. The term "impression" is confusing because people used to mean several things. The artists do not use the word to refer to any copy or more works of art, including posters. Today, with the use of inkjet printing, the line between original art and prints more copies zerox-like blurs. Traditionally, in the fine art world, an impression of true art is one that is pulled by hand by the artist, like the monotype and silkscreen, and forms printing, where the artist actually created or engraved printing block and is (with the master printer) in the press and copies are created. You are an art writer by creating this type of work. Once it was thought that if you create only inkjet prints, then you are making copies of his original works (whether constructed or are fully digital scans of his art). It gets even more confusing with artists paint or on the basis of views, thereby creating new "original". And then there are the artists and photographers working in digital format only. Therefore, I the important thing is what kind of artist you are and what your environment is. Impressions after Giclee inkjet or if your medium is purely digital works of art are. Then call himself a "digital artist", not a recorder. Some more progressive galleries will accept them as original art. Other galleries will focus traditional and reject them. The public generally does not seem to mind. Most people buy what they like, if the price is right for them.
